Drop Hammer
A drop hammer (or drop forging hammer) is a heavy industrial machine that shapes pre-heated metal by raising a massive ram (the tup) and letting it fall onto the workpiece. The upper die, attached to the ram, strikes the metal against a lower die fixed to the anvil, forcing it into the die cavity. It is a key machine in drop forging, also known as impression-die or closed-die forging.
Features of Our Drop Hammer
- Heavy-duty construction for long service life
- Consistent, powerful blows for accurate forgings
- Suitable for a wide range of forged components
- Easy operation and maintenance
What is a Drop Forging Hammer?
- Anvil & Lower Die: The stationary base holds the bottom half of a shaped steel die. The anvil typically weighs 20 to 30 times more than the hammer ram to absorb high-impact shocks.
- Ram & Upper Die: The moving upper section (tup) holds the matching top die half.
- Lifting Mechanism: Depending on the design, the ram is raised using a board, belt, friction rollers, or power-assisted steam/compressed air.
- Impact vs. Press: Unlike slow hydraulic presses, a drop hammer delivers a high-speed kinetic impact (lasting roughly 2 to 5 milliseconds) that forces hot metal to rapidly flow into intricate die cavities
